Are there food restrictions with Invisalign?

Having straight teeth is for more than just aesthetics. Eliminating bite problems and straightening teeth can eliminate areas that harbor bacteria which promote plaque build-up. Invisalign clear aligners are ideal to straighten teeth for teens and adults of all ages.

There are many advantages with Invisalign not available with other traditional methods of braces including:

They are clear – This allows the patient to undergo a teeth straightening method that is apparent to no one.

They are removable – This is crucial for a couple of reasons. Being able to take your braces off to brush and floss not only allows you to reach all areas to keep teeth as free from plaque build-up as possible, but allows you to do so with less tedium and hassle than trying to clean teeth through braces.

Removing them also means you get to eat all the foods you love. Fresh fruits and vegetables; crunchy snacks like nuts, chips, and popcorn; a thick juicy steak; or a crusty piece of bread … none of these things are forbidden with Invisalign. The aligners are removed for snacks and meals and replaced when done. Whether chewy, sticky, crunchy, or tough, if your teeth are strong enough to enjoy these foods, your braces will not stand in your way.

They are comfortable – Invisalign aligners are made from a clear material strong enough to gently shift teeth to their correct occlusion, but there are no wires or metal to rub or poke soft oral tissues.

They are convenient – Aligners are replaced with the next in a series every two weeks. The updated aligner will fit a little tighter over the next couple of weeks. Teeth will move so the aligner will fit comfortably. As each aligner is replaced, teeth are being moved toward to their new, correct placement.

Your dentist will provide you with an assessment to determine your candidacy for Invisalign using dental x-rays, photographs, and impressions. These are the tools the Invisalign lab uses to fabricate the aligners using 3-D digital technology to develop the series of aligners that will ultimately shift teeth to their correct occlusion.

Treatment time varies depending on the severity of the case. The Invisalign wearer is advised to keep the aligners in place a minimum of twenty to twenty-two hours every day to achieve the desired result in the appropriated time frame.
