Returning Back to the Dentist? Here’s What You Should Know

Many patients have experienced delays in taking care of their overall wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic — including going to the dentist. At the same time, with the flooding at our old office in February and then being at a temporary location for so long, we understand you may have had to reschedule your appointment until the New Year.

Luckily — Richardson Dentistry is back fully up and running and ready to serve our community! Patients should know that going to the dentist is completely safe during the pandemic, and necessary to care for your oral health.

The Importance of Heading Back to the Dentist

Taking care of your oral health is essential not only to maintain your teeth and gums — but your overall health. The condition of your smile can directly increase your risks of chronic health conditions, and can lead to gingivitis, tooth decay, and tooth loss. Some health conditions that have been linked to oral health include heart disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, strokes and breast cancer.

Remember, if you are having a medical emergency such as a fractured tooth or severe pain, you should always contact your dentist immediately. Letting a dental emergency go untreated can be detrimental to your health.

Visiting the Dentist Safely

Additionally, ADA and CDC research has found no real transmissions of COVID-19 between patients and staff in a dental office. Our team at Richardson Dentistry is here to help you feel safe and confident in your dental care when you return back to the office.

If you have any preexisting health conditions, you can let us know before your appointment or when you check-in. Additional measures that you can expect may include:

  • You may notice new HEPA filters or air purifiers to improve air cleanliness.
  • Our staff is wearing protective gear to keep you safe.
  • You may receive a pre-treatment rinse to reduce any bacteria in your mouth.
  • If you are a new patient, you can fill out online forms to reduce your time in the waiting room.

As always, we will:

  • Disinfect our tools after every patient.
  • Replace tools between uses.
  • Offer the same level of compassionate dental care.

When you do head back to the dentist after some time, we expect that you may have some tartar build-up. We’ll take our time to carefully clean and examine your teeth and get you back in tip-top shape!

Technology at Richardson Dentistry

In addition to COVID-19 protocols, both our dental team and patients love how safe our in-office technology is. Our new digital x-ray system emits less radiation, while still providing essential information to properly examine your smile and diagnose various oral diseases.

With modernized dental instruments, we’re able to perform less invasive procedures and reduce the chances of common gum disease infections. Treatments like Invisalign and dental implants are another great alternative to braces and dentures because they ensure the comfort and convenience of our patients.
